RemoveUnknown allows you to report, remove and resolve Unknown SIDs and
unknown accounts from server folders, files and shares in your Windows NT, 2000 and 2003
environments seamlessly.
With an
easy to use user interface, you can simultaneously run the unknown ACL collection
agent, perform an unknown SID Report and remove unknown SIDs in one
operation. The unknown SID Report results identify which folders, files,
shares contain unknown ACEs and lists all Unknown SIDs that
exist on the selected servers. By selecting one or more unknown SIDs the
Unknown SID Removal removes every instance of the unknown SID in all
folder and share ACLs.
Quickly
perform unknown SID collection by running the collection agent
immediately or gather cumulative reports over time with the built in
schedule service on multiple servers.
Key Collection Features:
The Unknown SID Removal is
performed using a three step process.
Unknown SID collection gathering can be
performed immediately or scheduled to run at a predetermined time. To
reduce overhead and network traffic the server collection is generated
locally on the collection server.
Again, to reduce overhead and network
traffic the unknown SID report is generated locally on the
remote server The Report agent creates the report file and
stores it on the remote server.
Once the unknown SID Report is complete, the
results are import into the main RemoveUnknown user interface where one
or more Unknown SID can be selected and set for removal. Every instance
of the unknown SID is removed from every Folder and Share automatically
from the selected server and a results report is generated that may be sorted, saved, printed or exported to Microsoft Excel.

What is RemoveUnknown and why do I need it? It is nearly
impossible to get an accurate picture of
unknown SIDs in folders, files and shares
that exist in server ACLs. When a user leaves a company or groups are
removed, unknown accounts are left behind on the servers. This poses a problem when you need an accurate report as to
where these unknown accounts exist. You would manually have to use may
different tools sets to get a not so perfect report. RemoveUnknown is the
first software solution of its kind to report and remove Unknown SIDs
from servers. This is one reason
why we have been asked by customers to create a solution that
incorporates both the Unknown SID Report and the ability to granularly
remove selected unknown SIDs from server folders and shares. RemoveUnknown allows you to create these reports
and remove the unknown SIDs with one
operation.
Can I run reports and

servers from different domains with RemoveUnknown? Yes,
RemoveUnknown can report from different domains and more. You can add
multiple domains and gather information on several systems with one
operation. You can remove Unknown SIDs from different domains and
different system types with ease if you have administrative rights to the
domains and servers.
What type of servers
can RemoveUnknown Remove Unknown SIDs?
You can report and and remove unknown SIDs from Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers. You, as an administrator or help desk personnel
can also quickly run SID to account resolution reports by server or
domains.
I am about to start a
server data migration. Can RemoveUnknown help?
One of the biggest challenges administrators face during a
server migration is to verify that all folders, shares files and local
accounts have migrated successfully. Migration tools that come with Windows 2003 or third
party migration tools can not remove unknown accounts.
What operating
systems does RemoveUnknown run on?
RemoveUnknown runs on all versions Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000/2003,
as well as Windows XP and Vista.
Does RemoveUnknown
require client software or agents to be installed?
Yes. RemoveUnknown accomplishes all of its functions
by installing a scheduling service on each server involved in the
RemoveUnknown project.
To reduce network traffic and wait times,
RemoveUnknown gathers
and removes unknown SIDs locally on each server using
its own internal agent and the Winzero ScheduleManager.
